Washington (US): A heartbreaking incident has come to light in the US state of Wisconsin, where a young man shot and killed his sister and injured his parents in a family dispute over dirty utensils. The court has sentenced the accused to 35 years in prison and 19 years of supervision.
This incident took place on January 22 at the family home in Milwaukee. The accused, 32-year-old Gerardo Jimenez-Rico, took this horrific step just hours after his parents returned from Mexico. He told the police that he was unemployed and was troubled by the taunts and pressure of the family for a long time.
According to the police report, the dispute started when the father asked Jimenez to wash the dishes that had accumulated in the sink. The argument escalated when he cited a plumbing problem. The father asked him to leave the house and his 22-year-old sister Joselyn Jimenez supported him. At this time Jimenez pulled out a gun from his waist and started firing.
First the father was shot, then the sister. The sister had allegedly picked up a knife, seeing which the accused said he fired in “defense”. But the postmortem revealed that Joselyn was shot four times in the chest, back, lungs and hand, causing her to die on the spot.
When the mother then entered the room, the accused also shot her, but he told the police that he had no intention to do so. Both parents were seriously injured but survived.
A few hours after the incident, Jimenez-Rico himself went to the police station and confessed his crime. The court found her guilty of first-degree reckless murder, second-degree attempted murder and causing serious injury.
The deceased Joslyn was 22 years old and was the mother of a three-year-old daughter Melanie. Her fiancé has started a GoFundMe page where more than $18,700 has been raised so far to help the girl and the family. Joslyn dreamed of becoming a nurse.
